running when sick
Posted: Thu Dec 23, 2004 5:02 pm
For a while earlier this year, I had a streak of about 100 days consecutive running going. That started me doing some silly things, like running when I probably shouldn't have, when sick or injured. Does anybody else find that the urge to avoid a goose egg in their training log leads them to go run against their better judgement? I can remember I once ran two miles on a terribly painful hip, just because I didn't want to fall short of my goal mileage for the week.

Ohhhhh yes. In fact, I just got over an extemely minor rhino virus (no, there wasn't a sick rhinocerus in my bedroom), and I probably should have taken off yesterday, buuuut....I shortened my 5 miles to 4 and ran a bit slower.
Shame on me, but today I feel 100% and look forward to a nice 6 mile Christmas Day run in the AM.
