Quoting posts? Posted: Fri Jan 07, 2005 12:50 pm

OK, dumb question probably, but it seems that many of you are somehow automatically quoting portions of other posters messages in your responses. How ya doin' that?

You mean like this?

When you're typing in a reply, there's a "quote original" button above the text box, next to the buttons for bold, italic, and underline. If you're really clever, there are also other secret markup tags you can add to imbed images and stuff in your post too, but you have to pass the initiation ceremony before you get that kind of knowledge. :-)

Here's a complete list. Everywhere I've typed curly brackets here like { }, use square brackets instead like [ ]. I can't actually use square brackets, otherwise they would be transformed into formatted text and you wouldn't know what I had originally typed.

bold: {b}text{/b}
italic: {i}text{/i}
underline: {u}text{/u}
quote format: {quote="quotee's name"}text{/quote}
code (fixed width font) format: {code}text{/code}
list format: {list}text{/list}
imbedded image: {img}http://www.somewhere.com/something.jpg{/img}
web link: {url=http://www.somewhere.com/somepage.html}click here{/url}
font color: {color=colorname}text{/color}, colorname can be one of darkred, red, orange, brown, yellow, green, olive, cyan, blue, darkblue, indigo, violet, white, black
font size: {size=pointsize}text{/size}

Here is an annoying example.

Is that the complete list of HTML tags that work, or are there others? I tried [H1]text[/H1] and they obviously don't work.

That's the complete list. They're not actually HTML tags, but an HTML work-alike called bbcode. It's sort of an HTML-lite.

If it gets used too much and becomes annoying, it can always be turned off!
