OLN To Televise Boston Marathon Nationally Beginning In 2005
Submitted by Bricks :: Thu Feb 03, 2005 5:42 pm
The Outdoor Life Network has announced a multi-year plan to televise the Boston Marathon live nationally. This will make it the only US marathon to receive complete national television coverage from start to finish. This year's race will take place on April 18, with 20,000 runners completing the 26.2 mile course from Hopkinton to Boston, along with an estimated half-million spectators to cheer them on.

I wonder how different OLN's coverage will be from how NBC covers the NYC marathon; other than it being live. WIll it be truly wire to wire? If they're covering it for 3 hours then they'll probably have some pre and post race coverage. But then will they follow the front runners each mile over the course of 2+ hours or will they keep ducking in and out of covering the front runners to highlight other aspects of the race like NBC does for the NYC marathon? The local NY NBC station provides 5 hours of live coverage (if I remember correctly)...followed by the one hour national coverage (replay).

This is exciting...I can't wait!

If only OLN would jump on this year's London Marathon. I am so disapointed that I will likely see zero minutes of this, in all likelyhood, historic race...

Didn't ESPN or ESPN2 provide 2.5 hours of live coverage of the 2004 Boston Marathon? As I recall, it was actually pretty good coverage. OLN did a nice job on the Tour de France this past summer, though, so I look forward to their coverage of Boston this Spring.
