Jurek Wins Seventh Consecutive Western States 100
Submitted by Rickshaw :: Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:47 pm
A seemingly unstoppable Scott Jurek won his seventh consecutive Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run on June 26. Slowed by snows in the high Sierra, Jurek finished the grueling cross-mountain trek in a time of 16:40:46, well off his record pace of 15:36:27 set in 2004. As has become expected for Jurek, he ran from the front nearly the entire race, dropping his last real competitor at mile 47 and going on to win by a margin of 24 minutes. Jurek now plans to take a year or two off from Western States. With his seven straight victories, he has easily established himself as the most dominant runner ever to set foot on the Western States trail.
