Drug Cheat Runs Peachtree 10K Using False Name
Submitted by Rickshaw :: Sat Jul 09, 2005 8:14 pm
Suspended Ethiopian runner Alene Emere fooled race officials by entering last Monday's Peachtree 10K Road Race using a false name. Emere had previously finished second at Peachtree in 2001, before being suspended later that year for a doping infraction. Using the assumed name "Amara Leta", Emere finished sixth in Monday's race, earning $1500 in prize money. His deception unraveled later in the week, when an anonymous poster on the LetsRun.com message board identifed him. The Atlanta Track Club has since disqualified him and asked for the return of the race prize money.
