Osgood Schlatters Posted: Fri Oct 07, 2005 9:17 pm

I have osgood schlatters. I found out I had it when I was 11. I wrestle and at wrestling whenever I ran or got on my knees it hurt like CRAZY. So we went to the doctor and found out that I had Osgood Schlatters. It occurs During periods of rapid growth, stress from contraction of the quadriceps is transmitted through the patellar tendon onto a small portion of the partially developed tibial tuberosity. This may result in a partial avulsion fracture through the ossification center. Eventually, secondary heterotopic bone formation occurs in the tendon near its insertion, producing a visible lump. Approximately 25% of patients have bilateral lesions. I have heard that Nike Shox TL2 or TL3 have helped some OS suffers. This web page gives a lot of info on OS check it out. http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic347.htm

Ouch, that stinks. So have you been forced to cut way back on running or stop entirely? Or have you been able to find ways to relieve the pain and keep up your running? Is this something that will eventually go away as you grow into full adulthood, or are you stuck with it for life? I hope you're not too despressed about the whole thing...
