Skiing As Cross-Training

Triathlete Magazine has a nice article on skiing as winter cross-training. For athletes concerned that skiing might hurt their training, rest easy. Skiing can be very beneficial in many ways, such as increased strength, balance and aerobic endurance. When approached correctly as a continuous 5 to 10 minute effort rather than a series of 30 second sprints, a ski run can be a great interval workout. The high altitude of most ski resorts may help as well. It's worth a read while you wait for spring to return, and applicable to all runners even if you don't bike or swim.
