World Marathon Majors Open This Week

The new World Marathon Majors competition begins this week, with the Boston Marathon and Flora London Marathon. The competition ties together several of the sport's premier races into a super-event similar to the Majors of golf or tennis' Grand Slam. Runners in the "big five" marathons of Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, and New York as well as the IAAF World Championships and Olympic Games marathons will have an opportunity to accrue points according their finish position. The winner of each race will receive 25 points, and the second through fifth finishers will receive 15, 10, 5, and 1 point respectively. At the end of two years, the man and woman with the most points will split a $1,000,000 jackpot.
