Where do I find races?? Posted: Fri Apr 08, 2005 1:50 pm

Hey Rickshaw,

Maybe you can help me on this. I can't make the SF half-marathon like I wanted because J & I have to go to Milwaukee for a 90th birthday party that same weekend. I'd still like to find a half marathon to run if possible but I can't seem to do adeqaute searches.

Help me?

Thanks,
Miina

I like active.com as a place to search for races online. They seem to cover most races in the US, although they don't have everything. Marathonguide.com is also a good source for marathons (and half-marathons) in North America.

There aren't too many half-marathon only races. Around San Francisco, the Kaiser Permanente (formerly Home Depot) Half Marathon in January/February is the only one I know of. I general, you'll need to search for full-length marathons and then see if they have a half-marathon option. Most do.

There aren't many other marathons around the same time as the San Francisco marathon (late July), so unless you want to travel a long way or do an obscure race, you'll probably need to wait until marathon season picks up again in September/October. The Silicon Valley marathon is October 30, and there are other choices sooner than that in other places around California.

Cool - thanks for the info. I'll check those sites out. After the wedding and honeymoon in September I may just go ahead and pick another full marathon to train for. I'll see what I can find.
