watch out... Posted: Thu Jun 30, 2005 10:57 pm

I did 12 miles last week, 14 this week... if I don't watch out, this may become some sort of a habit. :-)

After my marathon in late April I had to recover. Then I got a vasectomy and couldn't run for three weeks. I now feel like a fat and out of shape piece of excrement. I did 14 miles last week. Must get back on track...

All right Rickshaw! I imagine your break made you a little bit hungry to get back on the roads. It really is good to take a break, from just about anything. Your body/mind aren't separate entities - they need each other, and we need to honor their needs.

That said, I MUST get back to swimming 2x/week. Damn me!

Yeah, having a break is definitely necessary once in a while. I was pretty sure I'd get back to running eventually. Although now my available exercise time has to be split between running and biking...

Do you swim as part of your cross-training efforts for running? What kind of swim workouts do you do?

You've been away from running for less time than me... I'm sure you'll get back on track quickly enough. Three weeks of no running for vasectomy recovery? Is that normal? Sounds like a long time.

My swim workouts were nothing to be envied. I was going every Mon/Fri (my off days from running) and swimming at the YMCA for as long as my body would hold out. At first, that was only 6 lengths of the pool (!!), but gradually it came back to me, and I was going straight through for around 45 minutes.

I imagine I'll be starting from square one once I go back, but I can't wait!
