hi all, please excuse me if this has already been posted to this forum. i thought some might find it useful though. http://www.sueandpaul.com/gmapPedometer/ they merged google's map with a distance calculator. you can trace out your favorite run route and see how far it is. but now that i write this...i'm not sure it takes into account altitude changes. i think her notes only mentioned latitude & longitude. -k

Nice! I tried this over a short (4 mile) measured course around my neighborhood and it was very accurate.

That's cool, I never actually tried the original version. It seems a bit awkward to set your route with much precision, though. I actually use National Geographic's TOPO! software for route measuring purposes, but this is a pretty sweet free alternative.

It's actually not as difficult as it seems to plot it accurately. You just have to plot several points on the turns, so as to make it a curve instead of a straight line. Just set the zoom on 0 in hybrid mode and you can see the details of the streets plus have their names.
