On my way to Boston... Posted: Sat Oct 15, 2005 10:12 pm

I received this email today... woohoo!

This is to notify you that your entry into the 110th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 17, 2006 has been accepted, provided that the information you submitted is accurate.

You can verify your acceptance into the field by searching the 110th Boston Marathon "Entrants" database on the B.A.A. web site, www.bostonmarathon.org or www.baa.org. Additionally, a "Confirmation" postcard will be mailed to you via US Postal Service mail.

In early April 2006, an official Number Pick-up Card and extensive information regarding the B.A.A. Boston Marathon and related race week activities will be mailed to you via US Postal Service first class mail. If you do not receive your Number Pick-up Card (required to claim number) and brochure by April 7, please contact our Registration Office at 508-435-6905. All registration related inquiries may be directed to the same telephone number. All other inquires should be sent to mile27registration@baa.org.

Note that bib numbers will not be distributed on Race Day. Your travel arrangements should take into account picking up your number at the World TradeCenter in South Boston on Saturday, April 15 or Sunday, April 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you in April!

Sincerely,

Boston Athletic Association

Awesome! Looks like you've got about 26 weeks to get ready. That's plenty of time. You should be able to become at least as fit as you were before you took your break and most likely be even more fit, depending on how you want to prepare. So...have you had time yet to think about your goal for Boston?

I just did the Staten Island Half Marathon today in very windy conditions and set a new PR by 2 minutes (1:38:16). This, and my New Hampshire Marathon results, bodes well for me to be able to hit my BQ time at the NYC Marathon. I just might (knock on wood) be able to join you on April 17th.

Awesome! You'll probably agree that was one email worth waiting for!

As for my "debunked" marathon, I'm not exactly sure what happened there. It wasn't listed among the possible qualifying races on the signup page, but at this point I'm assuming it's ok. Of course, there's still that language in the BAA email about "...provided that the information you submitted is accurate." Maybe they didn't verify anything at all.

Congratulations on the new PR! Your BQ time is 3:30 if I recall? Sounds like you're in good shape to me.

Congratulations, Rickshaw. A truly great honor. I know I'll never get there myself, but I admire anyone who is able to qualify and be accepted to run in the Boston Marathon. Some of my close friends ran in it last year and some others have run in years past. They truly enjoyed the experience.
