tree collision

Darn tree swerved right into my path! There were some branches hanging low over the sidewalk, and I ducked to pass under them as I ran, but I didn't duck quite enough. WHAM! A good solid branch smacked me upside the head. This was a nice 2-3 inch diameter branch, not some little twig, and it hurt. It also threw me completely off balance and stumbling out to one side. Ouch!
After recovering my wits, I unloaded a string of obscenities at the offending tree. Of course, just around the next bend were a father and son out for a walk who saw the whole thing. DOH!!

This past July, I ran headfirst into a stop sign when distracted by a lovely redheaded lass walking her dog.
The irony of running into a large, red sign that reads "STOP" was not lost on me.

This reminds me of Ann Landers cartoon about someone who collided with a telephone pole when it swerved right into the path of her car. "I tried to avoid it, but it was coming right at me!"

OK, not running related but (on second thought, I was actually running when this happened) I ran right into a plate glass window. I had filled up with gas at a 7-11 (this was 20 years ago I bet) and when I ran in to pay (I ran because it was raining) I ran right into the glass! The stunned patrons at the counter on the other side of the glass just stared and the clerk pointed to the door at the corner of the building. In my defense, it was raining and other 7-11's of this era often times had sliding doors in the front and would keep them wide open (anyone remember those?). I was on a date. Yes, I felt like an idiot. Looked like it too.
The only thing more embarrassing when it comes to paying for gas was when I had to go into pay for gas after a motorcycle wreck. I didn't have enough gas to make it home so I HAD to stop. Anyhoo, I wasn't hurt in my wreck but I did slide probably 50 yards in the mud on the side of the road. I was wearing pretty nice clothes and I was covered from head to toe with mud! I just walked in nonchalantly to pay and pretended that nothing was wrong. :o)
