Let's hear it for your favorite running shoes. What do you like, and why?

I'm stuck on the Asics 2080 series, and upgrade to the 2070 which was the first shoe I owned. They fit fine and I've had no foot problems, so I don't see any reason to mess with success. But now that the successor 2090 series as come and gone, and Asics is on to the 2100 series, it's getting tough to find new 2080 shoes anywhere.

I also have a pair of Asics DS Trainers that I use exclusively for racing. They're lighter than my 2080's, but have less padding. I'm not sure if they make any real difference, but at least I *feel* faster in them.

I've worn a lot of different shoes in the past 5 years in my attempt to find a good durable show with cushioning for my 6', 200+ frame.

I usued to wear the SAUCONY TRIGON and when it was replaced by the TRIGON 2 I think the quality went down. The shoe I'm currently training in is the BROOKS RADIUS. Not only does this shoe seem to have decent cushioning, but it offers the wide toe box I need. In fact, I found this to be a nice shoe to wear even when I'm not running (though I know that's not advisable). It has great breathability and just feels more comfortable than the shoes I've worn in the past.

But I don't know if I'll ever be satisfied...and will probably continue keeping my eyes open for better cushioned shoes for big runners.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 5

My feet feel more right in them then barefoot. They have a good balance of cushion and support. They have good toe room and just fit my foot right. I have 5 pair. I got a pair of the Adrenaline ASR (All Season Running) that have the less breathable, more water resistant upper for the winter, but the the cushionning is just not right. they're harder or something, but I still wear them on shorter runs on colder days because they fit the same.

I have the NB 856 and have had mixed results. Generally, I like the shoe but I think they lack the durability I need (I weigh 200 lbs). I was thinking about trying the NB 1221's next or the Asics Kayano (I'm a moderate overpronator). I use SOLE insoles that I will transfer to the new shoes. The NB 856's have about 350 miles on them, but I think that they are pretty much shot.

Have most people stayed with the first shoes they tried, or experimented until they found something that works? The staff at the first running store I ever visited put me in Asics 2070's, and I've stayed with that series ever since. At $80 a pair, it's expensive to go experimenting with other brands just for the heck of it!

I had GTS 4's and they weren't quite right (rubbed my second toe to blister) so I tried the Saucony Hurricaine 6 and found that A) they rubbed at the balls of my ankles and worse B) made my IT's flare up. I think they over-compensated for my pronation (I'm a slight over pronator) to the point that it was like wearing a pair of shoes that was worn down becuase they were sloped so much to begin with. so I abandoned those and tried on about 18 pair, the last being the GTS 5's and they fit like a glove, and somehow the slight design changes made them no longer rub. I'm done experimenting and worry about when the 6's come out.

Around five years ago I had Asics Cumulus and stayed with it through Cumulus III although my favorite was the original Cumulus. When they came out with Cumulus IV the reviews were less than flattering so I switched to New Balance 1022. I stayed with NB when they discontinued the 1022 and came out with 1023 which is my current shoe. I find that I'm a fairly loyal consumer especially when it comes to running shoes so I was reluctant to switch from Asics. Now, of course, I'm reluctant to switch from NB.

I liked the Cumulus and NB 1022/1023 because they are comfortable, last at least 400 or more miles and I've had no injuries that I could trace back to the shoes. I get new shoes not because of the condition of the shoe but because after 400 miles it seems to be the thing to do. For the most part there is no wear on the shoes although they are dirty and smelly!

For the most part I'm a Nike person, but I've tried quite a few shoes and brands. My favorite for a consistently good feel and adequate cushioning all at a good price is the Nike Air Pegasus, both in the summer and winter "storm" waterproof versions. My favorite shoe ever was the Nike Air Max Triax, but of course they discontinued it with no real replacement. I also like the Adidas Supernova Cushion, and have gone through a couple of pairs. I had one pair of Asics Gel Cumulus (not sure what incarnation) that I got on sale that were OK, and I have a pair of Asics DS Trainers (VI maybe?) that I've had for a couple of years that I use primarily for track intervals and races 10k and under. They're sparklely, and like Rickshaw said, they make me "feel" faster. All in all, though, I like my "Peg's".

Happy new year all!!! I'm a New Balance person who's owned 9 pairs over the years.
I'm having a ball!!! I'm starting to run more, walk less and I feel wonderful.Maybe I have a 5k in my future (?) I'm currently looking for a second pair of shoes to go with my NB 906. I was out shopping with a girlfriend the other day and against my better judgement I bought a pair of Nike's ( the really cheap kind RR Sports doesn't even list) at a discount store. (Banging my head into the wall)!! Those shoes were really comfortable at first, then 1/2 way into my run my feet started to burn & ache. I managed to finish my run, but it took all night for my feet to recover!!
Now I listen to that little voice that says, only buy the higher quality shoes and never stray from NB again!!

Ahhh, don't you hate those mystery shoes that the discount sporting goods places always advertise at great prices? Most of the leading manufacturers will be represented, but it's always models that you've never heard of and will never read a review of. I've found that I can't even find most "real" shoes (ie. those that you might read a review of) at the discounters, and have to go to one of our area's very few running specialty stores. Remarkably, though, I've found that the specialty places' prices are usually pretty competitive, and I guess they deserve our support since the sponsor many of the races.

Could it have been that the shoe size was too small? Not that the shoes themselves couldn't be the culprit, but it seems unlikely that they'd start falling apart after only one run. When I've had aching/burning problems with my feet, it's always been because my shoes were too small. I buy running shoes that are a full size larger than my everyday street shoes, which seems to be the norm.

Nope, these shoes were the right fit. They were just soooo cheap with pseudo support. I believe the model of these was Nike Xccelerator.
