Blizzard Forces Cancellation of Boston Prep 16 Miler |
|

Expected blizzard conditions in New Hampshire tomorrow have prompted the cancellation of one of New England's most popular races. The Boston Prep 16-Miler is a challenging course that annually draws a crowd of serious marathoners planning to run at Boston. The forecast of heavy snow and blizzard conditions have forced officials to cancel the race on just one day's notice, disappointing and angering some runners. Entry fees for the race are non-refundable.
This is a huge disappointment to anyone who worked hard to prepare for the event, but given the ugly weather forecast, it wouldn't be safe to go forward with the race. It's also understandable that entry fees can't be refunded, since most of the organizers' expenses are up-front costs-- money that's already been spent. Still, it's a rarity when an event of this size is cancelled on such short notice. A few years ago when the Washington DC marathon was cancelled at the last minute, a dedicated group went ahead and ran the race anyway.
