Weekly Wrap-Up: 1/23 - 1/30

I finished the first formal week of my 18 week marathon training program today, with 36 total miles over 4 days. I'd expected to run 5 to 10 miles more, but it was too cold for me to be happy running outside earlier in the week and I was sick of running on the treadmill, and then I hurt myself yesterday and decided to take that day off as well. I did get in 15 today, though, on a beautify, sunny winter morning. That's the furthest I've covered in quite some time, and I actually felt better at the end than I did at the start. Even though I was short on the total mileage I'd planned to run, I'm still a bit ahead of what the Pfitz 55mpw plan called for in terms of both total mileage and long run distance, so I guess I'm fine.

crazy cross-training week
Posted: Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:16 pm
This was definitely not a normal week for me: I spent more time pursuing other sports than running, but maybe I can call it cross-training so my weekly totals won't look as bad.
M (backpacking: 12 miles)
T (backpacking: 12 miles)
W
T 8
F 6
S (cross-country skiing: 18 miles)
S 21
35 miles total (77 counting the backpacking and skiing)
Today's 21 mile long run was the first training run over 20 miles that I've done in a long time. I finished feeling pretty beat, but not defeated, so I guess it was just about right.
Five more weeks until my goal marathon. Time is running out!

35 Miles! It's just two weeks until taper, man! Shouldn't you be packing in the mega-mileage right about now?! Are you running Napa Valley just for fun or something!?
Oh yeah, I guess the whole idea is that we ARE doing this for fun. Sometimes I forget!
