Rochester Marathon
Posted: Tue Feb 01, 2005 1:22 pm
I saw that OldManRunner posted a listing for a new marathon in Rochester. That's exciting to see a major new running event in my old home town, since it didn't have many. Their web site, however, is the worst:
www.rochestermarathon.com
. It just says to come back later, which doesn't give much of a warm fuzzy feeling. Given the September race date in upstate NY, I would have thought they'd make the route go along Lake Ontario as much as possible to get some cooling breezes, but I guess not. It'll be interesting to see if this race takes off.

According to the article in yesterday's newspaper, the web site should get populated within the next week. Since you're familar with the area Rickshaw, the route's supposed to go from downtown south through East Rochester, Fairport, and into Pittsford, and then back north again, with portions running along the canal towpath, Monroe Avenue, and East Avenue. I'll need to run it in order to show support for the new race, but it's a bummer that it's so early in the Fall (Summer!) marathon season. Maybe it'll go near the home of a certain little old lady that we know?
