What did you do today??

7 hilly miles trying to save my right shin for Sunday's 5K race.

I've been fighting satanic urges all day...

Actually I had a semi-notable workout today. I drove about 15 minutes to a really nice park I don't usually visit. Lots of beautiful shady paths through dark redwood forests. I planned to do about 12 miles. The first 4 miles were steep uphill, about 1600 feet of climbing, and I was practically walking. After gaining the top of the ridge, it took me about 20 minutes to find the connecting downhill trail, and I probably ran 1.5 miles in circles looking for the trail.

On the downhill I was flying, bounding over roots and rocks, until wham! I tripped on a root and came down hard, tearing up both hands, my shoulder, and elbow. I was right next to a stream, so I stopped to wash off the dirt and blood, and slowly got going again. Ten minutes later, wham again! This time I fell on the hands again, other shoulder, and opposite knee, did a little roll, and came to rest in the middle of a thorn bush thicket. Ouch!

I finally made it back out alive, but with blood dripping down from four different places on my body, my shirt so dirty it looked like I'd wallowed in a mud pit, and thorns and nettles sticking out of my clothes and hair. Back at the car, I encountered a group of kids on a field trip eating lunch, and got some pretty horrified looks.

Mrbill, what's the issue with your shin?

Awesme Richshaw! I hope you're okay. Your body should let you know better in the next day or so I'm sure. If you're no worst for the wear then I congratulate you on an awesome trail run. You must have felt a bit more worthy after completing a run like that. I mean, there's something to be said for finishing a trail run covered in dirt and blood. It reminds us we're MEN. ;)

In all my trail runs I've only fallen once. And yes, it drew blood. I ended up in a mud patch and came out pretty filthy. No one was around to witness it and I managed to get back home without any horrified looks. Since it wasn't a serious fall I managed to chuckle a bit shortly after I regained my composure and I even let out a few "Tim the Toolman Taylor" grunts to help me shake it off. I'm sure there are many more falls to come. I just hope I can scamper away with the same sense of sillyness every time.
