weekly woes Posted: Sun Jun 18, 2006 9:47 pm

Did your running go as you'd hoped this week? Did you survive the warm weather?

I struggled a little bit this week, and felt over-tired much of the time. I totalled 55 miles, following 58 last week and also 58 the week before, for the highest three-week total mileage I've done in a long time. But many of my runs this week were a challenge to get through.

Tuesday I did a long hilly run in warm weather, about 12 miles. I really cranked through some downhill miles near the end, which was probably a bad idea. Thursday I did 13 miles on another warm day, without enough water. Mid-way through the run I did three hard tempo miles, and felt utterly spent after that. I ended up having to walk the last mile home. Saturday was my team workout, an 18 x 0.33 mile relay race that was pretty taxing. Then today I slogged through 15 miles at a turtle's pace. I think the combination of the speed workout/race on Saturday followed by the long run on Sunday was tough. All week, I've been feeling sleep-deprived and had trouble getting up in the morning. In fact, I should probably go to bed now...

The plan for next week is basically the same, but extending the long run to 16 miles. I'll probably do a three mile race on Saturday. The rest of the week may involve a bit of cutting back, if I continue to feel flat.

My running has come to a halt!! Needless to say, I'm supposed to start Marathon training today. I can't run across the street. I think I might have a stress fracture but am scheduling an appointment for a bone scan this week. I'm not sure when they will be able to get me in but this isn't fun at all!!!!!

Oh no!! What are the symptoms? Do you have pain all the time, or only when you run? Does it get better or worse after an easy warm-up? If you are lucky, it might only be an issue with muscular or connective tissue, which should heal more rapidly then a bone fracture. Get well soon!
